Work in progress: Lapo’s book illustrated

I thought it was time to have a break from food and recipes to show you something I’m really proud of.  This is a pretty odd post for the Culinary Taste, I know, but it holds a special place in my heart. In May my baby will turn 1! Yes, a year’s almost gone (already?!) and I wanted to celebrate this event with something unique.

A book.

I mean, a book for Lapo.

Of course, he’s not 1 yet and he won’t be able to read it for, say, 4-5 years more, but my special love deserved a special gift. So, I just wrote a short story (sweet, simple and, yes, maybe silly) and I asked my best friend Chris (who’s so talented at drawing) to illustrate it. Here’s just a sketch of what she did (colors will be added later). Very cute, isn’t it?

The story deals with a little calf who goes around the farm to find his mom because he’s hungry and craves for milk. While walking, he meets lots of animals who tell him they have no milk to offer because they eat different food. Of course, in the end the little calf finds his mom and can have all the milk he wants.

Happy ending.

Well, the book won’t be published by a professional publisher, but I’m going to print it myself with the help of some useful website. Blurb? Maybe. So, Lapo can have something to play with.

I hope you enjoy this illustration. I do. And if you like Chris’ artworks, go check her blog to see what she can do.

Blurb? Forse. Così Lapo avrà qualcosa con cui giocare.

Spero che vi piaccia questa illustrazione. A me sì.

  2. Such a cute idea, he’ll always have it and know it was written especially for him by his Mum. The illustrations are really pretty too and simple, I like them in black & white then maybe the kids can colour it in themselves!!

Thank you so much! We planned to make colored illustrations because young children love bright colors, but the idea to leave them black and white is really good. I can tell my friend Chris and see if we can do something of the kind!😛

(your blog makes me concentrate really hard on my Italian language skills, which are slowly withering away. So thank you.)

    • Rita said:

Thanks! I’m glad the Italian version helps you… It’s like a free online Italian course!😀 (I warn you, it’s not a literal translation, just to make things more challenging… :P)
